Ausone 2009 (100 JS)
Incredible nose of currants and blueberries. Flowers too. Licorice. Such purity on the nose of Cabernet Franc. Full body, incredible structure, with fabulous tannins and a long, long finish. Built out of stone. The prefect Ausone. Try after 2022. – James Suckling
Ausone 2010 (98+ RP)
Alain Vauthier’s wines have been so remarkable since he acquired full control of Ausone that readers probably feel I have thrown my critical wits away. However, the proof is in the tasting, and the 2010 Ausone is unquestionably extraordinary. There are 1,500 cases of this beauty, which exhibits an inky/blue/purple color as well as an exotic, seamless bouquet of incense, Asian spices, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries. Full-bodied with a striking liqueur of minerality as well as a magical combination of complexity, substance and nobility, it reveals softer tannins than I expected for this vintage, so perhaps it will be more accessible in its youth than recent Ausone vintages have tended to be. It is another prodigious effort from Vauthier that should be drinkable in 6-8 years and keep for a half century. – RP
Ausone 2015 (99 WA)
Composed of 50% Cabernet Franc and 50% Merlot aged in French oak barrels, 85% new, for 20 months, the 2015 Ausone features a deep garnet-purple color and comes bounding out of the glass with expressive plum preserves, wild blueberries and cherry pie aromas plus fragrant nuances of roses, licorice, Indian spices, baker’s chocolate, new leather and cedar chest plus a touch of underbrush. Big, rich, opulent and full-bodied in the mouth, it is laden with bold blue and black fruits, superbly supported by very firm, very finely grained tannins and wonderfully seamless freshness, finishing with long-lingering exotic spice hints. – Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Advocate

Chateau Ausone Premiers Grand Cru 2012
€750.00Quick ViewChâteau Ausone is without a doubt one of the most iconic wines in the world.
The wine has a taste of black currants mixed with a chalky note, with aromas of vanilla and cedar wood. The richness of flavors is unparalleled, precise and above all, fresh.
The domain is known for its low yields and old vines. This ensures concentrated and complex wines. Château Ausone is made from roughly equal parts cabernet franc and merlot. The soil is rich in clay and limestone. The wine traditionally ages for 20 months in new oak barrels in the estate’s imposing cellar, an old quarry.
Château Ausone is a wine from Saint-Emilion. It is one of the four Premier Grand Cru Classés – A from the classification of Bordeaux. The other domains are Château Pavie, Château Angélus and Château Cheval Blanc.

On the palate, the attack is frank and elegant, real velvet accompanied by silky tannins. We find a very nice balance and a very fine and defined wine. The very long finish reveals woody and liquorice notes.
This wine is a blend of 29% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, 67% Cabernet Sauvignon
Endowed with undeniable natural wealth combined with assets cultivated over the centuries, Château Montrose is one of the most privileged wine-growing areas in the Bordeaux region.
The 95-hectare vineyard has the exceptional and very rare particularity of being historically all in one piece, around the Château, the cellars and the farm buildings. This unit facilitates the work of the vineyard. It allows a global reflection on the vineyard, an optimal vigilance on the sanitary state of each plot and a more efficient organisation of the work of the vine.
The terroir of Château Montrose corresponds to what geographers call “elite nuclei”. A complex geological pile of several million years favoured the creation of this hilltop benefiting from a natural drainage towards the estuary, ideal for the production of great wines. On these terraces, we find a soil of gravel mixed with sand on the surface and a subsoil, richer in clay, allowing the formation of a natural reserve in which the vine will draw, in depth, the water from which it requires.
At Château Montrose, the largest plot has two hectares, the smallest a few ares, but each has its own personality, its own name, its own soil or subsoil, and has a vine whose age, yield , the grape variety or the rootstock, is different from the neighbouring plot.
This incredible puzzle of lands is found in the wines produced in Montrose since they are both the result and the synthesis of each micro-terroir.Goes wonderfully with wild boar stew, meats, game birds, beef in puff pastry accompanied by chanterelle mushrooms and foie gras.
